Mouth Care for Cancer Patients
Friday, July 31st, 2009Daily dental and oral care is very important for all of us, most especially when the mouth is affected by therapy. Take in mind that chemotherapy for tumors in any part of the body can still affect the mouth, (whereas radiation therapy affects the mouth only when applied directly). The flossing and brushing natural teeth should be brushed daily (and preferably after each meal, large or small) with a soft-bristle toothbrush. A small amount of toothpaste is useful when brushing, excessive amounts do not make up for inadequate brushing and flossing. Flossing is an effective way to clean between the teeth, but your doctor may decide that it would be too irritating for your gums. Ask his or her advice also about massaging the toungue and gums, another element in mouth care.
Bleeding Gums are Not Normal. Take Action Right Away…
Friday, July 31st, 2009I once heard from a woman who told me that her gums bled frequently. She told me that she has blood in her mouth when she wakes up in the morning. She also said she couldn’t afford to go to the dentist.
I told her that she must go. Chances are she has gum disease, but she needs a dentist or doctor to diagnose the situation and rule out anything more serious.
This brings up an important point. Bleeding gums are not normal at all. Usually, if your gums bleed while brushing or flossing it is possibly indicative of gum disease.
Don’t Be Afraid, Gingivitis is Reversible…
Thursday, July 30th, 2009Relax, there is good news if you have this condition. Gingivitis is the reversible form of gum disease. If discovered early enough it will not progress to the advanced stages of periodontal disease. If you only have this mild form of the disease, you should be able to reverse it and prevent tissue loss.
How did you get it? There are many kinds of bacteria in our mouth. When you think about it, you might realize that the mouth is one of the dirtiest parts of your body. You may never fully get rid of these bacteria.

Teeth Whitening: Review Your Options
Tuesday, July 28th, 2009There are many products on the market that claim to provide spectacular results when it comes to whitening your teeth. Sites that provide genuine (non-paid) teeth whitening review information are rarely as enthusiastic as the manufacturers of said products.
On top of the commercially available products you can pick up at the drug or grocery stores, your dentist can offer to build you a custom-made tray and help you bleach your teeth. Expensive and time consuming, this process needs to be repeated every so often to maintain that newly whitened look.
